Visceral and soul-gripping, Verdi’s Requiem will rip your heart out and put it back together again. From its tender solo moments to the terrifying cries of the “Dies irae,” it’s a journey both fragile and powerful as the May Festival Chorus and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra combine for this breathtaking Mass for the departed.
Pre-Concert Performance
At 6:15 PM in the balcony well, experience a performance from Viva Voice Chamber Ensemble, a 27-voice select adult choir. Viva Voices Choral Organization was founded in 2021 by Tony Burdette to provide high quality community choral experiences in Northern Kentucky. With over 200 singers, Viva Voices has choirs for children, youth and adults.
Pre-Concert Talk
At 6:30 pm join us in Corbett Tower for a pre-concert talk moderated by Associate Director of Choruses Jason Alexander Holmes. Holmes will be joined by professor of musicology at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Dr. Jonathan Kregor to discuss Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem Mass. Dr. Kregor specializes in nineteenth-century music and has published articles and reviews in The Journal of Musicology, The Musical Quarterly, Nineteenth-Century Music Review, Journal of the American Liszt Society, and Notes; and has given papers at numerous national and international conferences.
