James Conlon, celebrating his 30th year as Music Conductor of May Festival, introduces the 2009 Season and specifically the Opening Night concert, featuring Patti LuPone in her debut performance of Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins, followed by a performance of Mozart’s Requiem featuring the May Festival Chorus, May Festival Youth Chorus, guest soloists, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at Music Hall.

Maestro Conlon discusses the majestic space of the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption and the annual concert featuring the May Festival Youth Chorus, performing works by Morley, Thompson, Hindemith, and Dawson, and conducted by James Bagwell. The May Festival Chorus, conducted by Robert Porco, performs Vaughn Williams’ Mass in G Minor and Brahms’ Zigeunerlieder.

James Conlon, Music Director, Cincinnati May Festival 2009 Season: Mahler’s “Symphony of a Thousand”
Maestro Conlon discusses the final concert of 2009 May Festival, Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 “Symphony of a Thousand.” The work unites, for the first time on the Music Hall stage, the May Festival Chorus and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, both of which are prepared by Robert Porco, and features guest soloists, the Cincinnati Children’s Choir and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Altogether, over 500 artists are assembled on the stage of Music Hall.
