ELGAR: The Dream of Gerontius
Based on the poetry of John Henry Newman, The Dream of Gerontius spans the full range of human emotion—from prayerful longing to searing intensity—made fuller and richer through the visual landscape of the Dream Project. Conductor Michael Francis, known for championing the music of his native England, leads this monumental work—music that was performed for May Festival audiences in 1906 with the composer himself conducting.
This forward-looking season brings together world-acclaimed guest artists and the Festival’s first-ever Creative Partner, Gerard McBurney, to curate the immersive Dream Project. The result is a joyful and imaginative celebration of shared music-making that builds on Cincinnati’s amazing singing tradition.
